The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between aspiring Medical Assistants and their professional careers. This position is integral to ensuring students gain hands-on experience in high-quality externship environments while adhering to industry standards and compliance requirements. The Coordinator will strategically develop and manage relationships with externship sites, monitor student progress, and facilitate their transition into the workforce.

- Facilitate the placement of Medical Assistant students in externship sites that align with industry standards and professional growth opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between students, externship sites, and CHCP to ensure seamless communication and compliance.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, empowering them to excel in their externship experiences and transition into full-time roles.
- Contribute to the strategic objectives of the department by optimizing externship-to-hire conversion rates and enhancing program visibility within the medical community.
- Secure and manage a robust network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring alignment with program objectives and industry standards.
- Achieve and maintain a minimum of 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites through strategic partnerships and effective student placement.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor student performance, address concerns, and strengthen relationships with externship partners.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including adherence to TWC regulations.
- Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to facilitate the transition of externship students into full-time employment opportunities.
- Provide counseling and support to students regarding attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations during their externship.
- Lead externship orientations and assist students with resume writing, interview preparation, and career readiness.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation, including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
- Track student progress, ensuring completion of final evaluations and conducting exit interviews to assess program outcomes.
- Promote the Medical Assistant Externship Program throughout the medical community through targeted outreach and networking initiatives.
- Minimum of 3+ years of practical experience in the medical assisting field, demonstrating expertise and industry knowledge.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required to ensure professional credibility and compliance.
- CPR certification preferred, showcasing commitment to safety and preparedness.
- Passion for mentoring and supporting students in achieving their career goals; no prior teaching experience required.
