The Medical Assistant Laboratory Skills Instructor is a pivotal role within the educational framework of CHCP, operating under the direct supervision of the Program Director. This position is designed to deliver high-quality instruction in both theoretical and practical applications, leveraging advanced teaching methodologies to ensure student success in the classroom, clinical practicum, simulation, and skills laboratory settings.

As a key contributor to the academic success of students, the Instructor is responsible for:

  • Setting and achieving educational objectives tailored to student needs.
  • Providing ongoing mentorship and fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Tracking student attendance and progress to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Maintaining professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff to optimize educational outcomes.

  • Deliver assigned classes using prescribed courses of study, established texts, and instructional materials.
  • Ensure the classroom and laboratory environments are maintained in optimal physical condition.
  • Supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings, ensuring adherence to course requirements.
  • Review and manage medical supply inventory for laboratory experiences.
  • Provide hands-on instruction through demonstrations and competency evaluations.
  • Assess student learning by evaluating proficiency in return demonstrations and providing feedback.
  • Manage simulation scenarios and evaluate student responses for critical thinking and application.
  • Conduct CPR instruction in alignment with American Heart Association guidelines.
  • Facilitate patient communication and human relations training.
  • Teach phlebotomy techniques, including venous and capillary draws, and centrifuge operations.
  • Instruct on ECG and Peak Flow Monitoring procedures.
  • Provide training on suture removal and injection techniques (subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular).
  • Guide students in obtaining vital signs and measurements, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse, and pulse oximetry.
  • Train students in triage, critical thinking, and patient documentation practices.
  • Perform and instruct point-of-care testing, including HCG, Mono, Strep, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose, and Hematocrit.
  • Prepare lab specimens for transport and assist with general and specialized examinations.
  • Provide instruction on sterile instrument decontamination, wrapping, and sterilization techniques.
  • Teach medication administration, including various routes and buffering/reconstitution for injections.
  • Ensure proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, including handwashing and decontamination.
  • Train students in proper PPE use, maintenance, and disposal practices.
  • Educate on safety protocols, biohazard waste disposal, and sharps management.
  • Comply with mandated reporting requirements for communicable diseases.

  • Degree or post-secondary education and relevant experience meeting state (TWC) and ABHES accreditation standards.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience, with teaching experience preferred.
  • Current certification, registration, or licensure as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Medical Doctor (M.D.).
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider-Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association.
